My Story
Hi, I’m Mehreen Shehzad — a Certified Nutritionist, Naturopath, and Yoga Teacher. I’m the owner of Holistic NYC (Nutrition, Yoga, Care) and have been thoroughly enjoying what I do for 8+ years. But it didn’t start just like that.
Sometimes life sends you a curveball that turns out to be exactly what you need.
A few years back, I was fighting mental and physical challenges due to my unhealthy lifestyle and poor eating habits.
Since childhood, my eating habits were nowhere near healthy, and with a sweet tooth, I ended up constantly munching on fatty foods and pop drinks.
Because of that, I was either hyperactive or felt fatigued most of the time. I wouldn’t even take my meals properly, because I kept nibbling on high-calorie snacks to get through the day; and despite putting on weight, I was malnourished. To top it off, I had a bad concentration span and mood swings. Even though I tried different kinds of diet plans, I always failed which resulted in more frustration and disappointment.
So this was me two decades ago: fifty-five pound overweight, pre-diabetic, brain fogged person suffering from anxiety, IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and chronic eczema, at the mere age of twenty-six.
This became a reality check and I decided to think outside the box. I not only began to educate myself about nutrition and natural health but also started to apply it to myself. I quit junk food from my daily diet, became disciplined, incorporated healing food into my meals and started yoga. Years later, when I got my certification as a yoga instructor, I realized yoga allows us to detox our bodies and burn excess body fat at the same time.
Within two months I started seeing improvements – weight loss began, IBS improved, cravings reduced, bloating/discomfort went away and energy levels rocketed! This also helped me regain my self-confidence.
The best thing about my slow and steady weight loss was that I successfully achieved the Set Point Theory. Set Point Theory is the body’s signalling system that supports and helps the body in maintaining normal body weight. Twenty years have passed and I still maintain my body weight.
I’m glad I hit the curveball hard at the right time and found my way towards the purpose of my life — to support and spread wellness.
Moving forward with my success, I now want to help others and spread my knowledge. By presenting non-invasive solutions and personalized guidelines. I am here to offer support and guidance to those who want to be healthy and smart with a better lifestyle!

What is holistic nutrition?
The word holistic is based on the Greek root holos, which means whole, evaluating the body as one whole functioning system. Holistic nutrition considers all aspects of a person’s life – physical, emotional and spiritual health together with diet and lifestyle and uses natural and non-invasive remedies to promote self-healing.
What is intermittent fasting and how does it fight obesity?
Intermittent Fasting is an eating pattern where you switch between periods of eating and fasting. You are able to eat normal amounts of therapeutic food, just in a smaller time frame which is called the Eating Window. When you go without food for more than 12 hours, your digestive system gets a chance to rest, and within 12 to 36 hours your body enters ketosis and starts burning fat for fuel.
